NAMIWalks/Feedmore Food Drive

At NAMI Virginia we know mental health recovery is possible. We also know that recovery can come with a steep price.  Many individuals with a mental health condition are unable to hold full time jobs and often struggle to meet the basic needs of home, food and safety.  We know that it is impossible to improve one’s mental health when one’s physical needs are not being met. As a result, this year we want to maximize the power of NAMIWalks Virginia to ensure the food banks are best equipped to support those individuals who most need that basic level of help!

NAMIWalks Virginia is partnering with Feedmore to host a two week food drive beginning during Mental Health Awareness Week and culminating on Saturday, October 15th at NAMIWalks Virginia. FeedMore is Central Virginia’s core hunger-relief organization comprised of programs like the Central Virginia Food Bank, Meals on Wheels, the Mobile Pantry and Kids Cafe. Spanning nearly one-third of the state, across 34 counties and cities, FeedMore serves more than 200,000 individuals in the region’s most vulnerable populations – children, families and seniors. NAMI Virginia, the Virginia state office of the National Alliance on Mental Illness, focuses on promoting mental health recovery through support, education and advocacy.  NAMIWalks Virginia is NAMI Virginia’s biggest awareness and fundraiser allowing the organization to serve thousands of individual and families impacted by mental illness across the Commonwealth.

The food drive will kick off on Oct 4th and we invite local Central Virginians and NAMIWalkers alike to join us in donating food items.  See a list of most needed items here.  Two large blue Feedmore collection bins will be at the NAMIWalks Virginia site at Innsbrook North Shore (4951 Lake Brook Dr Glen Allen) at the corner closest to the Lake accepting donations from Oct 4th – 15th.

Please do your part to help programs such as Feedmore continue to provide important services that allow individuals and families to focus on recovery!
