Family and Youth Leadership Summit

Our 5th Annual Family and Youth Leadership Summit 2017 was a beautiful success! We are incredibly grateful to all who attended and to all of our wonderful speakers, presenters, and panelists! As promised, the Summit brought together parents, youth, policymakers, community leaders, and mental health professionals to gain encouragement from one another, share resources, and discuss topics and issues relevant to family and youth support and resiliency, as well as growing the family and youth voice in Virginia.  Our Parent Track was able heard from inspiring author and mental health advocate, Pete Earley as well as have a Question & Answer session with representatives from key child serving systems as well as breakout workshops on key issues to parents and supporting children with mental health challenges.  Our Youth Track participated in an interactive workshop on trauma and resiliency, where participants learned about stress and the structure of the brain, a guest speaker shared his story of becoming an advocate, followed by a panel of young adults who shared their mental health and leadership strategies and benefited from other activities to enhance their leadership skills.

If you were unable to attend this year’s Summit, we gathered the PowerPoint presentations from the workshops as well as other valuable resources for you to use year-round. You can find this information here. Don’t forget to check out the pictures from the Summit. We will see you for the 6th Annual Family and Youth Leadership Summit in 2018 – see you next year!
