Start A New Affiliate
NAMI is currently re-evaluating what the requirements are to become an official NAMI affiliate and we are awaiting guiding materials to assist interested individuals in developing an affiliate. As more information is shared with NAMI Virginia, it will be provided here.
For the time being:
- Check out our “Get Involved” page for ways you can raise awareness about mental health in your local community outside of developing an actual affiliate.
- You may also want to review what it takes to start a nonprofit article by Board Source for more insight on what will be required to start an affiliate under NAMI’s Standards of Excellence.
- We also recommend that interested individuals first establish a Family Support Group, Family-to-Family, or a Connections Support Group before becoming an actual affiliate, as these groups/programs will help lay the foundation of having a strong committed base of volunteers to sustain an affiliate.
