NAMI is made of three tiers, a national office, state offices, and local affiliates. All are independent yet work together to serve our mission around mental health recovery. There are thousands of NAMI Affiliates across the country. Here in Virginia we have 17. Affiliates work in local communities to provide support, education, and advocacy. Affiliates are often made up of volunteers who are personally connected to mental illness. Affiliates offer a variety of services including support groups, educational courses, helplines and educational presentations and meetings. Affiliates are created based on the coordinated efforts of local volunteers with NAMI Virginia’s assistance. There are not affiliates in every Virginia locality currently.
